Town Heroes
User Interface Design Project
This is a project shining the light on Troy's most prominent community service members. My subject for my project was Greg Skaggs, an Art & Design professor at Troy University.

Into the Heroic Life of Greg Skaggs
Troy’s a city that has been around for years and has grown a loving and happy community around town. With each passing year, more members have come to the city to make it a better place for the community. One of these outstanding members of the community is Greg Skaggs, a professor in Art and Design at Troy University and a chair in the school’s Art Department. Whether it’s for the school or Pike County, he’s been there to answer the call of service. He’s managed to uphold the status of great community member and the proud name of Troy in many different ways. Greg Skaggs has managed to uphold the proud name of Troy by the community services he’s done for the youth and for the university.

Greg Skaggs has done community services for the youth by participating in organizations that push towards helping children. One organization he’s apart of is Kiwanis, an international civic group founded in 1915 to serve children. Their main cause is children literacy and Greg helps that cause by volunteering to read to children at Head Start. On top of the work he’s done with Kiwanis, he’s talked to members of the community about placing a skate park in town for the children. It’s not just community kids he helps with his time, he also gives his time to his beloved students.

Greg Skaggs has done community services for the university by helping the students get their art into the community. He has assisted students at Troy Fest every April by helping them set up tables and sell their work to the public. He has also talked with his community members about putting bike lanes in the city for students to travel safer than walking. This would also be used for students of any grade in Pike County to travel to school. Greg has many ideas he believes would help the community but struggles to find the right people willing to make the change. And although it can be stressful and frustrating, it has never stopped him for caring for the community that he loves.

In conclusion, Greg Skaggs has managed to uphold the proud name of Troy by the community services he’s done for the youth and the university. It was very insightful to learn more about him and the hopes he has for the city of Troy. He is a man with a lot of aspirations and visions for how Troy can be transformed for all generations to be a part of. If time and money permits, I’d love to see his ideas implemented into the community. These are the types of decisions that will help Troy rise to its fullest potential and become more enjoyable for generations to come.
